After working for law firms in New Zealand and Australia, Royal found herself confined to the glass ceiling inhibiting her ability to realise her cultural talent and creativity in the law career, hence she ventured to establish her own practice in Hamilton in 2006 as a sole practitioner.
Responding to increasing demand from the migrant communities for bilingual legal services, Royal moved to Auckland and transformed the firm to offer full-service in litigation (with a special focus on family law), conveyancing, immigration and investment. Royal’s strategy in concentrating the firm’s expertise on multicultural, multilingual and China market gave the firm an edge over other practices of similar size whilst providing complementarity to larger firms which lack the cultural flair.
Following her success in helping the Chinese migrant community, Royal reached out to the Japanese, Korean and other Asian clientele by employing staff native of these countries and compiling legal information (eBooks) in those languages.
Being an entrepreneur, Royal challenged herself beyond the legal comfort zone to become a public speaker and social media influencer. She gave numerous speeches and held pro bono legal information sessions both in New Zealand and overseas.
Royal’s corporate social responsibility initiatives include being a member of Kea New Zealand’s Global Board, board member of On Being Bold group, and advising the Luxury Network, Auckland Art Gallery, Land Information New Zealand, and many other private companies both locally and internationally.
Royal received legal training in New Zealand, international policy studies from Republic of China, Negotiation skills and Professional Service Firm Management from Harvard University. She also qualified as a mediator via LEADR NZ, Arbitrator in Republic of China, legal interpreter, and a Certified Agile Coach.
Royal is recognised by numerous honours and awards, including the 2016 ANZ Migrant Support Award and winner of the highly commended award for Community Service in Law at the 2012 NZ Law Awards. Under her leadership, Prestige Law was a finalist in the NZ Law Awards’ Litigation and Dispute Resolution Specialist Law Firm of the Year and Employer of Choice: 1 – 50 since 2015. Prestige Law was listed in the 2019 Innovative Law Firm by NZ Lawyer Magazine for pioneering technology in legal practices and a finalist in the 2019 Diversity Awards NZ by Diversity Works NZ for demonstrating best practice in workplace diversity and inclusion.

As an Advisory Partner of Grant Thornton, the international accounting and advisory firm, I have worked on a number of assignments with Royal and her team at Prestige Lawyers. I have found Royal and Prestige to be great to work with, always striving for the best outcomes for their clients while showing great empathy for their clients’ needs at any particular time. I greatly appreciate the high quality working relationship that has developed between Royal and myself/Grant Thornton. I would have no hesitation in recommending Royal and Prestige, particularly as specialist lawyers in the Asia/NZ business space.
Efficient, professional, extreme attention to details, great teamwork and wealth of knowledge in all legal aspects in the area we needed help with. Highly recommended.
I met Royal for the first time at her CBD office when I was in the darkest moment of my life. I didn’t realise that this meeting would become the most important support I could ever have.
In front of Royal’s professionalism, I explained to her each dilemma I had to deal with — including family issue, financial issue, business issue, immigration issue, and even criminal issue. Royal showed great patience, comprehension, and most of all, she understood my anguish. All the long way struggling for justice, Royal and her fabulous team provided me continued advises, refined strategy, and kept fighting to protect my best interest. Behind the huge pile of my files, I saw much more than an admirable legal professional, but a lawyer/barrister with great human nature. During three years, between courts and bureaux, reports and arguments, no matter how hopeless or painful I was, I knew that Royal and her team will look after me and fight for me.
Now I finally start my new life. But I won’t be able to go through this incredible journey without Royal’s help. I will always remember the incomparable professionalism, dealing each legal detail with efficiency and elegancy, from Prestige Lawyers. Stepping into Royal’s office door was the best decision I could ever make. My profound gratitude to Royal and her team. Thank you.

And I just labored a newborn baby at same time. Everything came together, I was so stressed and depressed. I have never thought my case will turn out to be so serious and difficult. Luckily I met prestige lawyers, you guys gave me constructive suggestions, professional services and logical ideas. Oh and the office dog! So cute and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. I do love the way the business has a real family feel to it. However, when it comes to the tough cases, Royal and her team are definitely the team you want in your corner. Highly recommend
Mrs Reed and her team were involved from the early stage of the application for the preparation work. All my questions including setting the right direction, documents preparation and all the details in the process I was able to get prompt and accurate reply from Mrs Reed and her team, I was very impressed with their professional performance. Two months after the submission of the Employer’s questionnaire, without any requirement for further changes or interview I got what I was after, to a great degree this was because Mrs Reed and her team had a proper understanding of the whole situation and the details. I highly recommend Mrs Reed and her team. If you have similar situation you’d better get in touch with Mrs Reed’s team quickly and get some advice from them.

We provide regular opportunities for the team to develop their professional and social skills and gain further insights into Asian languages and cultures. These opportunities include:
It was three years ago that I had become an official member of the team at Prestige Law. I started right from the very basics by working in the client-facing frontline. I began learning about our clients’ individual matters, their experiences, and emotions as well as witnessed them conquer legal hardships and how they were able to walk through trials into eventual triumphs. Through the legal help of the firm, I witnessed many successful visa applications being granted, property and business transactions completed and cross-border disputes being resolved. Even as an assistant, the team’s achievements gave me a great sense of accomplishment.
Through my bilingual capabilities, I was able to assist the lawyers more in areas of client communication, evidence review, and organisation as well as document translations. Shortly after, Royal offered me an opportunity to complete a legal course to become a New Zealand registered legal executive. At the time I was merely an assistant holding a two-year work visa. Although I was very excited about this opportunity, I was also anxious and worried, worried that I would not be able to successfully obtain this qualification given I did not have any prior legal study foundations. Both Royal and the firm provided me with a lot of support and motivation. Through the practical and real-life experienced obtained from full-time work at the firm, I was able to successfully complete all six papers to become a New Zealand registered legal executive!
The step by step journey from being someone who had no legal foundation to becoming a legal executive was something I never imagined possible. However, Royal maintained her faith in me showed me endless support right from the very beginning. I would not be where I am today if it was not for Royal’s investment and the selfless sharing of her invaluable experiences and wisdom. As a young international student that migrated to New Zealand to study in 2007, I had found myself facing numerous obstacles in both my studies and in finding work. I, therefore, cannot express my gratitude towards Royal enough, for her continuous support and encouragement, for the opportunities she has given me through quality training and development and for allowing me to work in an environment where I am treated equally to my peers and able to receive recognition of my work through salary reviews. We now often find ourselves excited about what is to come and talking about our plans to build a better future as a firm. Royal came into my life like a lamp in the dark, she gave me hope when I was at my lowest and helped to show me a new pathway in life, one that leads to betterment.
I am a lawyer from Brazil and joined the Prestige team 3 years ago as a Legal Consultant. Royal encouraged me to get my qualification transferred to New Zealand to be admitted as a solicitor within the New Zealand jurisdiction. I have then started studying at AUT and working part-time. As we work as a team through an online system, it is possible to have some flexibility in relation to work hours and location. It has been great having the opportunity to study and visit the family while still working. The productivity and communication remain fluent in such an accommodating arrangement.
It was a great pleasure working for Prestige Law in the past 5 years. Royal always inspires and motivates me to grow through various challenges and valuable experiences. I really appreciate her continuous guidance and kind support in both my career development and personal life.
The prestige team is diligent and supportive and always focuses on customer satisfaction. Each member has an attractive personality and loves helping each other to achieve the goals for clients.
I highly recommend Prestige Law to you and believe that they will be your amazing “life partner” in NZ!
From my time at Prestige Lawyers as a junior clerk all the way through several solid years as a Barrister and Solicitor I grew immensely under the guidance of Royal together with the team at Prestige Lawyers. I had the privilege to be part of an awesome group of consummate professionals who always went the extra mile for our clients, and no matter how difficult the case the team always fought for our clients interests until the end.
Thank you Royal and the team at Prestige Lawyers, I will always cherish the wonderful memories that we have had as a team together and am proud to be an alumni of Prestige Lawyers.
I have two children, one is 5 and one is 3. I have been staying at home look after them full time since the little one was born. Before that I was working from home for the Prestige Lawyers for over a year. I loved my work but stopped when the second child came around. While I was at home looking after the children, I embarked on my study to get the Legal executive Diploma. I finished my study at the end of last year and received my diploma of Legal Executive this year. My elder daughter started school and younger daughter started preschool earlier this year, then I wanted to enter work field again. With these two young children to look after and limited time available for work, my ideal job would be working part time. I am so thankful, because I got more than I have wanted. I got the opportunity to work for the Prestige Lawyers again, work as a legal executive remotely. The firm is based in Auckland, but I am living in Wellington. It’s very kind of Royal to offer me this job, and I love my job. In the job, I can use what I have learned, and I am constantly learning. I love my team, they are all working hard to help clients in many ways, I am proud to be this big family. Now I can work to enhance my skill, and at the same time I can look after my children when they finish school and preschool. Thank you Royal and everyone in Prestige Lawyers.
